Uh, is anyone still here? C'mon folks, your comments are the only thing that make you accountable and that enrich each other's study.

Genesis 16.2-4 - "So Sarai said to Abram, 'The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her.'
Abram agreed to what Sarai said... He slept with Hagar, and she conceived."

OK, first of all.. Abram's an idiot. I think this is one of those type of situations like, "Honey, does this dress make me look fat?" And Abram walked right into by saying, "yes."

Second, and more seriously, it strikes me that at this point, Sarai blamed God for her childlessness. And sadly, it appears that Abram felt Sarai was the reason that he had not had a child. Otherwise, he would not so quickly have seized on the Hagar Option.

What was the solution for Sarai at this point? What should she have done? (and no, "hire old, ugly servants" is not a good response!)

Boy, I see in this situation my own tendency to "take matters in my own hands" and "make something happen." It's one of my greatest fears as a spiritual leader... that in my attempts to lead, I will move ahead of what God actually wants and make a mess of things.
